Pole Barn Common Questions
Are you about ready to build a pole building in Missouri? If so, you probably have quite a few questions you want to be answered before construction begins. To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of pole barn common questions we receive.
How long does it take to build?
The building process time varies among custom pole barns in Missouri. Factors that influence how long it will take include building size, weather, and building features. However, construction on agricultural buildings in Missouri typically takes less than a week.
How much does a pole barn cost?
Similar to construction time, the cost of a pole building in Missouri depends primarily on building size and added features. For example, a 24x36x8 pole barn with one 16×7 garage door, one 3′ entry door, and soffit/wainscot ranges around $10,600 installed. On the other hand, a 50x80x16 storage building with one 24×16 sliding door, one 3′ entry door, and soffit/wainscot can range around $34,600 installed.
Is a cupola necessary?
A cupola is a little box that sits atop a roof. When properly installed, a cupola provides excellent ventilation to a building. At CSI, our custom post frame builders in Missouri highly recommend installing a cupola to your barn to receive additional ventilation.
What type of steel is used?
At Central Structures, our standard steel is on the higher end of the 29ga range with a nominal thickness of .0154″. Although, some of our clients prefer heavier steel and end up choosing our 26ga option. Regardless, all of our steel options include a 40-year finish warranty.
How far apart are trusses and purlins spaced?
The spacing of trusses and purlins is crucial to the strength of the building’s roofing system. Many barn builders choose to space their trusses 5, 8, 9, 10, or 12 feet apart. However, we place our trusses 4 feet apart. As for purlins, we space them 24″ apart. These spacings ensure more trusses, more columns, and ultimately stronger farm buildings in Missouri.
